Project Proposal

For my project, I would like to focus on the learning difficulties that high functioning autistic students face in the classroom. While the symtpoms of autism range from very mild to very severe, I would like to focus on how a normal classroom environment might prove inadequate in meeting the needs of an autistic student with mild symptoms. Autistic students typically experience difficulties with social interactions and social cognition, language development, and flexible thinking (imagination). I would like to research how these difficulties might manifest themselves in learning situations, particularly in group learning environments and in writing activities.
